Facts About Loft Insulation

Uninsulated Lofts

Did you know that you lose about 25% of your home heating directly through the roof of your house if you have not had it insulated. It doesn't take a genius to realise that this type of heat loss will be costing you a lot of money. Installing approved insulation to your loft is a quick and easy way to address this problem.

The Installation Process

Mineral fibre rolls (Earthwool 44) are laid between the joists at the required thickness. Currently (as of November 2016) building regulations and the Energy Saving's Trust recommend 300mm thickness. However, if you are looking to simply top up the current thickness of the insulation in your loft we can supply insulation material with depths of 100, 150, 170 and 200mm.

Insulation to tanks and pipes are also carried out as part of the insulation process. Installers will also check that there is adequate ventilation between the newly laid insulation and the roof. This is to avoid any condensation forming in the now cold roof space.

Average Installation Times

Assuming no complications are encountered, such as access complications, approximate times as follows:

  • Mid Terrace - 45 minutes
  • 3 Bed Semi Detached - 1 1/2 hours
  • 5 Bed Detached - 2 1/2 hours

Earthwool 44 Loft Insulation Material

The Earthwool 44 loft insulation material has a very low thermal conductivity value, is odourless, will not set alight, will not encourage the growth of fungi, bacteria or mould and will not encourage rats and other vermin to nest.

Loft insulation rolls come wrapped and are unwrapped in the loft to reduce any mess.

Does Loft Insulation Cool My Home In The Summer?

Loft insulation is not just for keeping your home warm in the winter. It also helps to keep your home cool in the summer. The insulation material acts as a barrier to heat entering your home. This can help to keep your home at a more comfortable temperature during the warmer months.
