Facts About Cavity Wall Insulation
Cavity Wall Heat Loss
Insulating the cavity space in your walls will help you to reduce heat loss and lower your home energy bills more than any other measure. On average a house will lose 35% of its heat through external walls if they are not insulated. This makes it an obvious choice, especially when you consider you can have it done for free through the UK Government's ECO (Energy Company Obligation) funding grant.
The Installation Process
A series of small holes (approximately the size of a 10p piece) are drilled through the mortar joints of the outer wall in a pattern which is recommended by the insulation manufacturer. A high performance blown glass mineral wool insulating product (Supafil 40) is then applied via an injection process ensuring that the whole cavity is fully filled.
The pattern of the drilled holes and the amount of pressure applied on application ensures that the insulation product is at the correct density throughout the whole cavity.
On completion the installers will fill all drilled holes and use mortar to match your current mortar colour.
Average Installation Times
Assuming no complications are encountered, such as access complications, approximate times as follows:
- Mid Terrace - 1 1/2 hours
- 3 Bed Semi Detached - 3 hours
- 5 Bed Detached - 4 hours
