The UK's HUG Scheme Explained
Welcome to the Future of Home Efficiency
Have you heard about the UK's Home Upgrade Grant Scheme? It's a fantastic opportunity for homeowners looking to boost their home's energy efficiency. This scheme is all about helping you cut down on energy use (and bills!) by funding improvements like insulation, solar panels, and heat pumps. Not only does this mean cosier living spaces and lower heating costs for you, but it also significantly reduces your carbon footprint.
There are currently several excellent ECO grant schemes to help UK residents upgrade their home's insulation, heating and to move to renewable energy such as solar PV and air source heat pumps. Here we talk about the UK's Home Upgrade Grant scheme.
HUG (Home Upgrade Grant)
This program is specifically designed to support those who wish to enhance their home's energy efficiency but currently do not use gas boilers as their main heating source. The UK's Home Upgrade Grant Scheme is also designed to target low-income households in England.
It provides funding to make homes warmer, reduce energy bills and lower carbon emissions. Eligible improvements include insulation, renewable energy installations, and energy-efficient heating systems. This initiative is part of a broader government effort to tackle fuel poverty and contribute to the UK's climate change goals.
Eligibility for the HUGS Grant
To qualify for HUGS, there are several criteria you must meet:
Residence: You must be a homeowner residing in the property you wish to upgrade.
Heating Source: Your main heating system should not be a gas boiler.
Energy Performance: Your home should have an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating of D, E, F, or G. If you're unsure about your home’s EPC, you can find it out while applying.
Household Income: Generally, your annual household income should be £36,000 or less to be eligible. However, even if your income is higher, you might still qualify depending on your postcode area. Some specific postcodes will not have to be means tested if they fall within the specified IMD areas. IMD postcodes are small local authority areas which are deemed to have a certain level of deprivation.
What You Can Get:
Wall, loft, and underfloor insulation.
Air source heat pumps and solar panels.
Electric heating upgrade, example upgrade to high heat retention storage heaters.
All fully funded via the HUGs grant scheme. That means no expense for you at all!
